Opinion: Ruud van Nistelrooy shouldn't try to bring Leicester City fan favourite back in…

Leicester City will be finalising their plans for the January transfer window, which is just around the corner.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will have funds available to him, however, the Foxes boss is expected to make minimal changes to the squad.

A host of players have been linked ahead of the window as Leicester assess what they can do to put themselves in pole position to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Among the names linked with a move to the King Power Stadium is a former fan favourite but, despite the romance of a return to the club, it’s one that Leicester shouldn’t prioritise.

Since his move to Chelsea in the summer, it’s fair to say that life hasn’t been plain-sailing for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Sold by Leicester to combat their profit and sustainability fears, Dewsbury-Hall reunited with Enzo Maresca in west London but has yet to make his mark.

Restricted to appearances off the bench and starts in the Conference League, the midfielder’s path to the starting XI is a tough one given the form of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia.

His lack of minutes have seen him linked with moves away to Aston Villa, as well as a potential return to the Foxes on loan in a bid to go and get more gametime.

Leicester City should avoid Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall transfer reunion

Although the idea of bringing Dewsbury-Hall back to the East Midlands is nice, it’s one that shouldn’t happen.

Dewsbury-Hall was integral in the Foxes’ Championship title-winning season and had he not left, would’ve been a nailed-on starter in the Premier League.

But, following his departure, the arrival of Oliver Skipp, a new formation change and the resurgence of Boubakary Soumare means that particular area of the pitch is well-covered.

Other positions such as wide options, a long-term right-back and forward are all things that should be prioritised.

Leicester fans are also hesitant about a Dewsbury-Hall return – at least in the short-term. If the Foxes are to stay up and some stars move on, the door should never be closed entirely.
