Jesus in the last chance saloon at the Emirates

Gabriel Jesus is running out of time to convince Mikel Arteta that he still has a future at the Emirates.

Bought from Manchester City two years ago, he was meant to be the end of Arsenal’s striking problems. Instead the goals have dried up completely for the Brazilian. He has not scored in the Premier League since January, and has managed just two in all competitions in this calendar year.

And his latest cameo against Fulham showed why he is increasingly being viewed as an expensive luxury. Brought on with his side needing a goal he managed just eight touches, and bottled out of a challenge with Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno when played for by Declan Rice,

With the Gunners desperately in need of an upgrade, it now looks like they will offload Jesus at the first available opportunity, and he could be set for a return to Brazil, most likely next summer.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
