Aston Villa Women are considering terminating the employment of boss Robert de Pauw, The Guardian reports.

According to the news outlet’s website [11 December], the Dutchman’s future is now under question after the 4-0 loss against Arsenal as the Lions linger one point above the relegation zone.

De Pauw was absent from the Bodymoor Heath training base on Tuesday (10 December), it is claimed, and it remains uncertain whether he will be in the dugout for the League Cup clash against Charlton Athletic on Wednesday (11 December).

Villa have grown frustrated with how the Women’s Super League campaign has progressed after backing the manager heavily in the summer transfer window and will consider all possible avenues in the coming days.

Aston Villa Women could part ways with Robert de Pauw

The Villans announced the appointment of De Pauw as Carla Ward’s successor in June, and his tenure appears to be heading towards an abrupt end, only six months into his tenure.

Aston Villa were forced to wait until the 3-2 win against Crystal Palace on 17 October for a first win under De Pauw in the WSL – his appointment has been an overwhelming misfire at Bodymoor Heath.

De Pauw has only managed three draws and five losses in his other eight outings this year, and only Everton, Leicester City and Crystal Palace stand between Villa and the drop zone.

His fortunes in England have come as a shock to all in Birmingham – he enjoyed a remarkable spell with Bayer Leverkusen before his move, recording fifth-place and sixth-place finishes in the Frauen-Bundesliga during his two-year stint in Germany.

However, his time in charge of Aston Villa Women has gone up in flames, and drastic action is needed to avoid an untimely return to the Championship after four years in the top flight.

All roads lead to De Pauw’s dismissal – the decision will undoubtedly garner no complaints from the Villa faithful.
