Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message following Saudi Arabia's successful World Cup 2034 bid.
Cristiano Ronaldo has given his reaction to Saudi Arabia being awarded the FIFA World Cup in 2034. The nation was awarded the tournament in a congress meeting held over video link on Wednesday.
Ronaldo ended his second spell at Manchester United in 2022 and joined up with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. After moving to the country, he became an ambassador for the bid to host the 2034 World Cup.
He has now expressed his delight that the bid was successful. Saudi Arabia were the only bidders for the tournament. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ronaldo wrote: “Congratulations to all my friends in Saudi, I know how proud you all are today and I am sure @saudi2034 will be historic.”

As part of the message he shared a video discussing Saudi hosting a World Cup, saying: “2034 will be the best World Cup ever. It’s amazing! The infrastructures, the stadiums, the conditions for the fans and everything.”
He added: “The league has grown fast over the last year, if you see the difference, it’s amazing. You have like 7-8 big clubs right now in the league, they are very difficult to beat.
“The evolution of the players, for example my teammates and the other teams too that Saudis grow so fast and are becoming better players.”
Wednesday’s meeting also saw Spain, Portugal and Morocco confirmed as hosts of the 2030 World Cup. Although the first three matches of the tournament will take place in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay as part of the centenary celebrations.
Ronaldo also expressed his delight that his home country will be hosting a World Cup. Taking to social media, he said it was a “dream come true.”
