Celtic have assumed ‘pole position’ ahead of Italian giants AC Milan in the race to sign Chelsea youngster Carney Chukwuemeka, according to a report from Calciomercato.
The January transfer window is not far on the horizon, and the Hoops are already planning to strengthen further in the second half of the season.

Chukwuemeka, 21, moved to Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £20m (Sky Sports).
He has only made three appearances for the Blues this season, though, and could make his way out of the club next month.
Calciomercato reports that any move would likely be on loan with an option to buy, and although Milan aren’t leading the race to sign Chukwuemeka, the club’s technical director, Geoffrey Moncada, is looking to speak with the player’s agents to gain control of the situation.
Chukwuemeka is predominantly a central midfielder who can also play a more attack-minded role.
With Callum McGregor, Paulo Bernardo, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, and Luke McCowan all available to Brendan Rodgers, it remains to be seen where Chukwuemeka would fit in, but one can never plan for injuries or unexpected absences.
Celtic adding further depth to their engine room going into the second half of the season would only be improving on a position of strength.
