The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences presented its 'Hospital of the Future' exhibit at New Scientist Live 2024 and was voted the most popular feature by the public for the third year running.
The largest science festival in the UK, New Scientist Live 2024 hosted over 26,000 members of the public and over 6,000 school students to engage with leading science exhibitors from across the country.
We are thrilled to have received this recognition from the public for the third consecutive year—a milestone that speaks to the dedication and team work of our volunteers. Over 150 volunteers came together to design and deliver truly exceptional exhibits, showcasing a shared commitment to excellence. This achievement reflects the collaborative ethos and talent within our School, and I offer my thanks and congratulations to the students and staff who brought this success to life!

'Hospital of the Future' invited visitors to explore the School’s mission to engineer better health through live guided demos and interactive displays of healthcare engineering research. "The KCL Hospital of the Future had interesting tech to show and informative scientists to explain each demo," said one visitor. "Hospital of the Future had interesting activities and great volunteers... it was particularly exciting and well-curated," said others.
The Hospital of the Future feature has once again captivated our visitors, earning the title of New Scientist Live’s most popular attraction for the third consecutive year. This exhibit perfectly aligns with the event's mission by highlighting how STEM can profoundly enhance lives and spark curiosity about the world. The cutting-edge innovations and technologies showcased are truly remarkable, a testament to the hard work and creativity of the teams from King’s College London and New Scientist Live. We look forward to collaborating with this incredible team again at New Scientist Live 2025.

Over 150 volunteers contributed to 12 stands within the exhibit where visitors could compete head-to-head with cutting-edge AI, control surgical robots, use novel ultrasound imaging techniques to see inside the human body and more.
A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to each of our volunteers who generously gave their time, energy, and expertise to the event. Their work and enthusiasm made this achievement possible, and we are so grateful for their support.
