Liverpool FC is back in the hunt for a highly-rated winger who has been on their transfer shortlist for over seven years.
The Reds’ scouting team is doubling down on their efforts to strengthen the squad, and the spotlight has returned to Sweden’s teenage sensation, Momodou Lamin Sonko.
This isn’t the first time Liverpool has shown interest in Sonko. The club was close to signing him last January, but the 19-year-old opted to move to Belgium’s Gent instead.
Now, with the youngster making waves in the Belgian Pro League, Liverpool scouts are once again monitoring his progress closely, as per Anfield Watch.

Sonko’s journey: From Belgium to Liverpool’s radar
Sonko’s start at Gent wasn’t smooth. Adjusting to a new league mid-season posed challenges for the young forward.
However, a managerial change over the summer turned things around. Under Wouter Vrancken’s guidance, Sonko has found his footing, recently scoring a brace in the cup and netting his first league goal this month.
Liverpool’s scouts have been actively attending Gent’s matches, reigniting the possibility of a move to Anfield.
Known for extensively scouting talent in the Belgian Pro League, Liverpool has unearthed stars like Victor Osimhen and Jonathan David in the past. Could Sonko be the next big name?

Transfer priorities for Liverpool ahead of January
While Sonko is undoubtedly a talent for the future, Liverpool’s immediate focus should be on experienced players for January.
With manager Arne Slot’s side competing for both the Premier League and Champions League titles, adding seasoned players could be the key to a historic double.
That said, Sonko remains a long-term target, with Gent reportedly hoping Liverpool will eventually make a move for their young star.
For now, the Swedish winger must continue proving his worth to convince the Reds’ scouts of his potential.
