Bukayo Saka continues to cement his reputation as one of the world’s finest attackers, delivering a masterclass in Arsenal’s 3-0 Champions League win over Monaco.
The 23-year-old scored twice and assisted a third, guiding Arsenal to the brink of a knockout stage spot.
Saka’s first goal showcased his instinctive finishing, capitalising on precise work from 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly, making his Champions League debut.
His second came late in the game, punishing a sloppy pass from Monaco’s goalkeeper, Radoslaw Majecki, to put the result beyond doubt. Minutes later, Saka’s drive set up Kai Havertz, whose deflected effort sealed an emphatic victory.
The numbers behind Saka’s season highlight his meteoric rise. With nine goals and 12 assists in 21 matches across all competitions, he is on track for a career-best campaign.
Only Mohamed Salah has contributed to more goals among Premier League players this season.
Last year, Saka managed 20 goals and 14 assists, and his trajectory shows no sign of slowing down.
Saka’s Champions League stats are equally impressive. Since debuting in Europe as a 17-year-old in 2018, he has become a dominant force in the competition.
He has been involved in 14 Champions League goals since last season, a tally surpassed only by Harry Kane, Vinicius Jr, and Antoine Griezmann.
This season alone, he has both scored and assisted in five Champions League games, more than any other player.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise after the victory. “What he has already achieved at his age is incredible,” Arteta said. “He’s humble, loved by everyone, and makes the difference on the pitch. His leadership, both with the young players and the seniors, is outstanding.”
Saka’s contributions extend beyond his stats. His connection with Arsenal’s academy products was evident when he celebrated with Lewis-Skelly after the teenager’s role in the opening goal.
Even club legend Thierry Henry admitted he underestimated Saka’s potential. “I never thought he would reach these levels,” Henry said. “His evolution from a wing-back to a decisive attacker is remarkable.”
With two group matches remaining, Arsenal look poised to secure a top-eight finish, avoiding a two-legged playoff. For Saka, the sky seems to be the limit.
