How Nelson Semedo feels about Gary O’Neil
While Wolves have a clear plan to welcome players in January, there’s emerging news regarding those currently in the squad.
Wolves want to keep Nelson Semedo beyond next summer, with the player’s current deal set to expire in 2025.
The Portugal international is desperately wanted at Molineux, prompting the club’s hierarchy to explore the possibility of a contract extension for the right-back.

Journalist Liam Keen broke the news and elaborated on Semedo’s situation when speaking on the E&S Wolves Podcast.
“Wolves are working on hopefully re-signing Nelson Semedo. The player is very keen to stay,” Keen said before detailing how the defender feels about O’Neil.
“He’s very happy at Wolves. He’s very happy with Gary O’Neil, he’s got a very strong relationship with the head coach and the player would like to stay.”
Semedo is one of Wolves’ highest earners and Keen explained how the financial side will require some leniency from both parties, with it hoped a deal can be struck.
“There will be a little bit of leeway from both sides when it comes to the financials to make it work and there’s no guarantee it will happen.”

O’Neil’s future could actually negatively impact Wolves players
Semedo values working with O’Neil, which could in turn see him extend his current deal at Wolves.
That being said, it must be pondered as to whether the defender would feel the same if the manager were to leave in the near future.
Despite Wolves fans turning against O’Neil, which is justifiable, it’s clear that the players have an opposing view of the coach.
Cunha thinks O’Neil is one of the best coaches he’s had, which is something of great importance to the Old Gold considering the Brazilian’s growth since the Englishman took charge.
The same can be said about other players, with club captain Mario Lemina passionately defending O’Neil after Wolves’ defeat to Everton.
It’s a tricky situation for the club, who are hoping to replace the manager in due course, which could simultaneously impact the futures of several players.
