Arsenal, Chelsea cast eyes over Sunderland star ahead of potential transfer swoop

Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham has also been watched by Arsenal and Chelsea this season, according to TBR Football.

Sunderland are set for a busy January transfer window and after keeping most of their talent in the summer, their resolve will be tested again this winter.

The only notable summer sale was Jack Clarke, and he has been adequately replaced by Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson. However, it remains to be seen whether a replacement will need to be found once again in another area with key players drawing interest.

Now, with just a few weeks to go until the January window opens, midfield starlet Jobe Bellingham is being linked with some huge clubs once again. According to TBR Football, Arsenal and Chelsea are among the latest Premier League sides ready to rival Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund for the midfielder.

Having been linked with several clubs across Europe, Sunderland’s resolve could be tested. However, the Black Cats are not ready to sanction a sale in this window.

Premier League sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford and Fulham have also kept a keen eye on the midfielder.

After a decent first season with Sunderland, scoring seven goals, Bellingham has improved tenfold this campaign. Under Regis Le Bris, he has been handed a slightly deeper role which has suited him a lot more.

Last year was his first full season in regular first-team football and he never nailed down a spot in the team. Despite being played in several positions, including as a lone striker, Bellingham still opted to reject Premier League interest and sign a new contract on Wearside.

That deal is valid until 2028, meaning the Black Cats are under no pressure to sell anytime soon. With two goals and two assists to his name, they would be wise to keep hold of him, as come the summer, his transfer value could be significantly higher.

What next for Sunderland and Jobe

Tuesday’s draw against Bristol City was a big snap back to reality for Sunderland.

After the win over Stoke City last weekend, the club were looking to go on a winning run. Before that win they had not won in six games which saw them drop of the top of the table.

They head to Swansea City this weekend. The Swans are chasing a playoff spot and will not be an easy task for the travelling Black Cats.
