Sandro Tonali’s agent has categorically denied suggestions his client is eyeing a return to Serie A.
Italian reports yesterday claimed the 24-year-old was unsettled on Tyneside given his lack of game time this season. Eddie Howe has eased Tonali back into Premier League life following his 10-month ban for breaching betting regulations.
This has disappointed supporters who are desperate to see the £55million in action and form a midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes. Recent weeks have seen Tonali deployed as a deep-lying playmaker - a switch that has produced better results.
However, the Italy international was benched for the 4-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday. Gazzetta dello Sport claimed four days later that Tonali is fed up and the situation has become “broken” at St James’ Park.
But in a robust rebuffall, his agent, Giuseppe Riso, slammed the reports while highlighting Tonali’s love from the Newcastle fans. He told Fabrizio Romano: “Sandro is absolutely not considering returning to Serie A.

“He’s happy at Newcastle. (He is also) happy to play in the best league in the world and he’s an idol for Newcastle fans, who’ve always supported Sandro in every moment.”
Toon boss Howe dismissed the notion of Tonali - who has started six Premier League games this season - being unhappy when similar reports emerged in October. He said: “That one is news to me. It is not something I am even contemplating. I am trying to build Sandro into the team after his ban.
"I think he has performed really well the last few games. I have been really pleased with how he is finding his feet in the team."
