Weston McKennie has revealed there were times where he felt "alone" during his nightmare spell with Leeds United. The USA international spent the second half of the 2022/23 Premier League season on loan at Elland Road from Italian giants Juventus.
McKennie clocked up 19 league appearances as the Whites suffered relegation to the Championship. It was a difficult period for McKennie, who admitted he let United's fans down with his below-par performances.
But since returning to Juventus, McKennie has got his career back on track. He stepped up off the bench to score for the Serie A outfit last night as they defeated Manchester City in the Champions League. His superb volley in the 75th minute secured a 2-0 win.
When asked by pundit Micah Richards in a post-match interview on CBS Sports last night to reflect on his time with United, McKennie said: "Okay I will say this, Leeds as a club, the people within the club I liked. The city itself and the surroundings was a little bit hard. It was always grey, I had a sunlight window in my house and there was never any sun coming through.
“No Sunday roast, no nothing. I was alone. My area was like no area, nothing around. I went up to see Harry Potter world which was like an hour away. That’s it, that’s all I did, and golf.”
The 26-year-old has featured 14 times across all competitions for Juventus this season, hitting three goals and contributing two assists.
