West Ham had been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson but a recent development has surely diminished that interest.

The Hammers have endured a tough season so far with a lot of their woes coming in an attacking sense and the club were credited with an interest in signing Wilson, as per Ben Jacobs on the NUFC Matters podcast.

However, a report from Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope on 11 December shared news of another injury for the striker who could be sidelined for several months.

This recent development has surely curtailed any interest the Hammers had in signing the 32-year-old.

West Ham must turn elsewhere in January

If the Irons are to be in the market for a striker in January, they simply cannot afford to be looking at Wilson. Even prior to the recent update, his injury record is woeful and he is far, far past his best.

It remains yet to be seen whether the club will be in the market for a new striker with plenty of other priorities that need to be addressed but it is certainly an option that needs to be considered in the window.

January could play a crucial role in deciding how the remainder of the Premier League campaign pans out for the Hammers with Julen Lopeteguiā€™s future still very much up in the air at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, a formal offer has been made for an Irons defender.
