Man United ace'failed to convince'Ruben Amorim, now available for less than a third of what he was signed for

Ruben Amorim has now had enough time to assess his squad at Manchester United.

Wednesday marked exactly one month since Ruben Amorim arrived at Carrington full of excitement and optimism.

Five matches in, the Portuguese head coach is now aware of the huge challenge ahead of him. Ruben Amorim has picked up two wins, one draw and two defeats so far.

Amorim has called for patience as he implements his style of play at United, and he already knows what improvements he wants to make.

After his first match against Ipswich Town, Amorim demanded a new left wing-back in 2025 – a position that United have struggled to fill over the past year.

United will likely have to sell to buy in the January window, but Amorim has already identified one star that is free to leave.

Ruben Amorim not convinced by Antony at Man United

Amorim has rotated his United lineups regularly since his arrival in England, with the Portuguese wanting to give every player a chance to impress.

However, one player who still appears to be on the fringes of the first team is Antony, who has only played 71 minutes of football in Amorim’s first five matches.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Antony was left out of the squad to face Nottingham Forest last weekend, which suggests he is not in Amorim’s long-term plans.

Ahead of the January window, it has been reported that Antony has “failed to convince” Amorim and has now been put up for sale alongside teammate Christian Eriksen.

United need to balance out their spending under PSR, and Antony is one way for the club to free up funds.

Man United set new asking price for Antony

The £85m spent on signing Antony will go down as one of United’s worst-ever transfers.

It has since been reported that United signed Antony for £60m more than he was worth and it means a sale in 2025 would have to come at a hugely slashed price.

According to the Daily Mail, Antony is now valued at just £23m ahead of the January window – less than a third of what he was signed for.

United are open to offers for the Brazilian winger, but it is yet to be seen whether any clubs are willing to match that asking price.

Reports suggested Newcastle are interested in Antony but the Magpies are also struggling to navigate the PSR regulations.
