Diego Leon sell-on clause

Manchester United’s move to sign Diego Leon is ‘really, really advanced’, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

Now, according to reports in Leon’s homeland Paraguay, there is one key part of the negotiations remaining.

Paraguayan outlet Popular reports Manchester United and Cerro Porteno need to settle on agreement for a sell-on clause.

This is the final issue remaining before a deal can be wrapped up between the two clubs.

It is not unusual for United to agree a small sell-on percentage when buying a young talent at a low cost.

How Diego Leon fits in at Manchester United

Diego Leon would be scheduled to arrive at Manchester United next summer, and it is likely he would be included on pre-season tour, allowing Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff to make an assessment.

From there, United will ascertain whether Leon should be instantly promoted into the first team reckoning, spend some time in the academy, or head out on loan.

The 17-year-old defender has made 20 appearances to date for Diego Leon, scoring twice.

Leon is a left-back, a position of need for Manchester United, and his short-term future will also depend on other comings at goings at the position.

Will Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw still be United players next year? And will a more senior first team left-back be signed? These are questions that will impact United’s decision on Diego Leon for 2025/26.
