‘He will depart’ - Simon Jordan shares view about future of NUFC man after talking with him

Simon Jordan believes Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe will leave the club in around 18 months, which would coincide with the time Thomas Tuchel will leave his position as England boss.

The Magpies are struggling for consistency this season, and the boss has been under pressure to deliver.

Howe has been often linked with the England job since becoming Newcastle manager, while former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth reportedly wanted him at the Old Trafford club when Erik ten Hag was sacked.

He is unlikely to leave the St James’ Park club this season despite the stuttering form of his players, but Jordan thinks he could move on at the end of next season when the England job would become available.

“I sat down with Eddie Howe recently,” the former Crystal Palace chairman told the Daily Mail.

“A very nice fellow. A capable Premier League manager? Absolutely. He won’t be short of offers if and when he leaves St James’ Park at some stage.

“By the time Newcastle are able to fulfil the owner’s dream of being a major force, it might be too late for Howe and having spent time with him I do hope that is not the case.

“My view – and this is personal, not gleaned from anything he said to me – is that he will depart from St James’ Park in around 18 months to coincide with Thomas Tuchel’s leaving the England job. That might be a satisfactory outcome for everyone.”

Newcastle have been unable to reach the levels their fans were hoping for after their takeover, and it remains to be seen whether they can get to those heights with their current squad.

The Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League continue to limit their spending, and they will need to find a way to get the best out of their current team if they are to start challenging for silverware anytime soon.

Howe will be desperate to get his men firing on all cylinders consistently, which has proven tricky so far, and failure to bring about the much-needed improvements on the pitch could cost him his job or force him to move on.
