Everton could replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Armando Broja as they prepare to take on Arsenal at the Emirates.

Sean Dyche saw his side roar to a rare comfortable 4-0 win last time out against Wolves [4 December] before the Merseyside derby last weekend was postponed.

His strikers however failed to score in the thrashing and with Broja now having returned to fitness, Dyche may opt to give the Albanian striker a chance up top.

Everton have their work cut out v Arsenal

Everton are showing signs of returning to that resolute side who flourished under Dyche towards the end of last season, with a back four of Ashley Young, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite and Vitaliy Mykolenko set to start ahead of Jordan Pickford.

There could be a case for switching to a back five with the towering Jake O’Brien in for extra cover and to defend Arsenal’s dangerous set-plays, but this would sway from a lot of what Dyche has built.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Orel Mangala excelled and found the net against Wolves and will be likely to partner Idrissa Gana Gueye in the deep midfield, while Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye and Abdoulaye Doucoure support as a three for creativity.

Arsenal will dominate the ball and dominate chances, which is where Everton have to not only work hard defensively and be robust, but also look to take their opportunities on the counter-attack.

Broja could suit that style with his runs in behind, and his finishing expertise where Calvert-Lewin has faltered this season could well be the catalyst for a surprise Toffees result in North London.

In other Everton news, an initial plan to loan out a young prospect may now have to be reversed.
