Everton striker Neal Maupay has insisted it was “quite easy” to leave the club for Marseille in the summer and he doesn’t regret the decision.

The French striker left Everton for Marseille in the summer after a miserable few years following a move from Brighton and Hove Albion.

He ended up as public enemy number one with the fanbase after a public confrontation with certain fans in London and then riled them up more when posting various images on social media after he had departed.

Everton were happy to see him leave and eventually got the deal they wanted, sending him to Marseille on loan until the end of the season but with a purchase clause included in the deal.

The 28-year-old has been enjoying life in France since, with two goals and four assists in ten games in Ligue 1 to date as he’s been in and out of the side under Roberto de Zerbi.

And it seems he’s more than happy with the decision, insisting that he’s joined the biggest club in France and isn’t looking back.

“Why did I come to OM? Because when I was contacted by Olympique de Marseille, for me it is the biggest club in France with the most beautiful history,” he said.

“The best supporters, I was very flattered and honoured by this interest and therefore For me it was quite easy to make this decision.

“I had been playing in England for quite a few years but to have the opportunity to come home to France and play for the biggest French club, the decision was quite easy. I don’t regret my decision, I’m very happy to be here.”
