This season has seen FC Barcelona face off against quite the frustrating obstacles. One of the more prominent obstacles out of these were the unwanted injuries that took place. Unfortunately for Barcelona, however, they simply have no solution to this problem than to deal with it.
Fortunately, that is exactly what they have managed to do. While Ronald Araujo may be back now and already is being included in squad lists for matchdays, he was still previously in recovery for the entirety of the campaign so far. Similarly, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s untimely injury left the club in a complicated spot.
While Barcelona did manage to sign Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to help ease the loss, Hansi Flick has ended up sticking with Inaki Pena. Despite being much more well-equipped and well-versed with the culture and demands of Barcelona, most people did not seem to have a lot of faith in his abilities.
Now, after proving them wrong with some stellar displays individually, Pena has continued to make everyone eat their own words about him. However, despite this displays, reports have emerged over time suggesting that a higher quality goalkeeper should be signed or another young talent should be given opportunities as well.
Yet, according to SPORT, all of this is nothing but pure smoke. These speculations and these debates over Inaki Peña’s continuity and future are nothing but a distraction of sorts, and there has never been a point where the player was as highly regarded as he is today.
While it is true that he remains an uncertainty in terms of being a long-term solution, Barcelona are yet to process that calculation. His performances may have been great so far, but it remains to be seen how he does as the season continues to progress into its critical stages.
