Marcus Rashford's five transfer options after Man Utd's £100m decision backfires

Questions have been asked about Marcus Rashford's Manchester United future

If Manchester United offload Marcus Rashford in 2025, they will get far less for the England international than they might have done in the past.

United are looking to balance the books as they aim to find funds for new signings in January and beyond. Rashford is among those they are said to be open to offers for, with the club reportedly wanting £40million.

That is significantly less than the numbers being discussed just 18 months ago. Rashford enjoyed the best scoring season of his career in 2022-23, scoring 30 times in all competitions, and there was talk at the time that he could be worth as much as £100m.

United kept hold of the academy graduate, though, handing him a big-money contract, and the gamble hasn't paid off. A return of just 15 goals from 66 games since the start of last season has coincided with a tough spell for the club in general, though there is some hope the arrival of head coach Ruben Amorim will change that.

Finding a club prepared to spend big in the current market isn't easy, particularly during the January window, but there could be some options - even if it means waiting until the summer to sell. Here, Mirror Football looks at a few clubs who might be prepared to take a chance on Rashford.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Rashford in the past, and a move to the French club looks like a good fit. It would allow him to get minutes in a team vying for a domestic title, while moving him away from the spotlight of the Premier League.

He wouldn't be the first England international to benefit from a move to the European mainland. Jadon Sancho thrived back at Borussia Dortmund last term after a tough time at Old Trafford, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek's form at Milan had some touting him for an international recall.

PSG have moved towards a younger profile of transfer target after moving on from the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. However, with this season's Champions League struggles highlighting the limitations of Luis Enrique's squad, they might be tempted to add more experience.

Arsenal

Arsenal have also looked towards younger players for the most part, but not entirely. Leandro Trossard was 28 when he joined from Brighton in January 2023, while Jorginho and Raheem Sterling have also pointed to a willingness to add more experienced figures.

Rashford might have more than 400 career appearances under his belt, but he's still just 27. If Mikel Arteta feels he can get something out of the United man, he may feel he represents value for money at this stage of his career.

A move to Arsenal would mean a more fringe role, but this might end up suiting Rashford well. He's already only in and out of the side at Old Trafford, but the expectations would be more clear in North London.

Al-Hilal

Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal have found themselves in a battle to retain their title this term, with Al-Ittihad sitting top after 13 games. The return of Neymar from injury is expected to help, with the Brazilian returning to the league squad for the second half of the campaign, but there has also been talk of interest in the former PSG star.

Asked about reuniting Neymar with Lionel Messi in MLS, Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas told Givemesport: "We are aspirational. If there is ever a chance to bring the calibre of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here."

Rashford could be a solid replacement if Neymar leaves, but the bigger question is whether he would want a Saudi Pro League move. He may decide it limits his chances of a run in the England side, and he'd want to speak to Thomas Tuchel about it at the very least.

Bayern Munich

Speaking of Tuchel, the German's former club Bayern Munich might be on the lookout for reinforcements. Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller are both out of contract in the summer, and the higher-ups at the club may decide it's time to push the boat out.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said the club are in open communication with Sane's agent, though no deal has been announced. "Now it's important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again," Eberl said in October.

With 64 goals in as many games, Harry Kane has demonstrated what a move to the Allianz Arena can do for a player's record. Might that tempt Rashford to consider making a similar switch?

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs' transfer plans may rest on the future of captain Son Heung-min

There aren't too many obvious options if Rashford decides to stay in the Premier League, but Tottenham could be one of them. Spurs captain Son Heung-min is out of contract in the summer, and questions remain over whether they might need to look for a replacement for the South Korea international.

Spurs are expected to activate an option to extend their skipper's deal by one year, with Son seemingly happy in North London. However, he has reportedly been left frustrated by a lack of progress on a longer-term deal.

Ange Postecoglou's side have an option to trigger a permanent move for loanee Timo Werner, regardless of what happens with Son. However, if they decide to seek out a permanent successor to their captain, Rashford looks like a solid positional fit.
