Jose Mourinho has urged Chelsea transfer target Nico Williams to join Real Madrid instead. The most famous Madridista strikes again.
One name who needs no introduction to Real Madrid fans is Jose Mourinho. The special one as he is known was a real success in the Spanish capital. It goes without saying that he had his heated and controversial moments but overall, he turned the club culture into a winning one.
The Portuguese boss, who is recognised as one of the greatest coaches of all-time, is still managing. He currently manages Turkish side Fenerbahce but he recently mentioned Real Madrid in one of his interviews.
According to a report from English outlet The Mirror, Jose Mourinho would like to see Nico Williams, who is a current Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target, join Real Madrid instead. This might not sit well with Chelsea fans, considering Mou also spent many years as a success at Stamford Bridge.
In his own words, Jose Mourinho said: "Nico [Williams] is wonderful. At the last Euros, everyone was talking about Yamal, Yamal, Yamal… who is obviously another fantastic young player. But personally, I prefer Nico; he is a fantastic footballer. One cannot think that a Turkish club could sign him; I hope he ends up at Real Madrid."
These comments will be incredibly well received by Real Madrid fans. Not only is the former boss urging one of the best players in the world to sign for Real Madrid but he has also put him on a pedestal above Barcelona player Lamine Yamal.
We are sure that these comments were not intended to divert from Chelsea. Mourinho has a special place in his heart for Chelsea and he likely isn't aware that Chelsea are interested in signing Nico.
From Real Madrid's perspective, it is all well and good that Mourinho is doing the recruitment for them. After all, he knows what it takes to be a truly great player as he improved many in the Spanish capital. However, it is not so likely that Real Madrid will feel the need to sign Nico Williams.
While Real Madrid want to sign some of the best talents in the world, with Nico certainly up there in that calibre, the attack is last on Real Madrid's priority list. In fact, they are sorted in this area of the pitch for many years to come.
