Second chances don't come around often in the transfer market, but Liverpool may be afforded a rare opportunity. Reports are emerging suggesting that Barcelona could soon lose £51m summer signing Dani Olmo for free.

As Spain unexpectedly navigated their way to Euro 2024 success at the expense of England this summer, Olmo's joint-golden boot victory made sure he in particular established himself as one his country's standout stars. Rumours were rife about his future amid the suggestion of Premier League interest and a £50m release clause expiring on July 15.

At the time, The Mirror reported Liverpool as being in the picture, though 'unlikely' to make a move as the battle intensified with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea involved too and a price of £60-70m speculated once the clause expired. As it turned out the 26-year-old secured a £51m move from RB Leipzig to the La Liga giants, where he played youth football up to the age of 16.

There he has settled in soundly to Hansi Flick's side, playing 13 matches with six goals and one assist in return. However, this is only because there were issues registering him in time for the season's start.

As per The Daily Mail, whilst battling financial troubles Barca accepted an initial six-month long registration as a compromise to ensure the attacking midfielder could play. If he is unable to be registered for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, there is reportedly a clause in the player's contract to allow him to depart for free next month.

This would open an interesting door for Liverpool, and their rivals too of course. A player of such calibre could offer a much-needed boost heading deeper into the Premier League title race, then in the long-term his so-called prime years as a footballer are still to come.

The Reds have been openly chasing a midfielder, though more a defensive one. That was fellow Euro 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi, until he flat out rejected the approach during the summer window. As for attacking midfield options, Arne Slot currently has Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott to call upon.

It is ultimately claimed that Olmo 'has full faith' his current side are able to resolve the matter and he will stay put in Spain, rather than having to move on so soon after securing that dream transfer. But his future has yet to be officialy resolved.
