Christian Falk of German newspaper BILD has asserted that one Bundesliga star is a ‘serious issue’ as a potential transfer candidate.
The January transfer window is now firmly on the horizon, although the big story of the month for Liverpool will be the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All three players will be able to enter pre-contractual talks with clubs outside of the Premier League from 1 January.
Liverpool’s relatively quiet summer transfer window raised eyebrows, particularly given the initial expectations for reinforcements under a new manager.
But that was not the case, with reports asserting that January will likely be more of the same – Liverpool acting opportunistically in the market.
However, it seemingly has not stopped to the club from having a list of transfer targets – with Christian Falk revealing a candidate today.
What did Christian Falk say about Liverpool?
The BILD chief reporter has asserted that Liverpool has lined up Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane as a potential replacement should Mohamed Salah depart the club in the summer,
The 32-year-old forward’s latest Champions League strike underlines his exceptional season, having contributed 16 goals and provided 12 assists across just 22 appearances.
“Superstar and living in Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah is currently not leaving a TV camera untouched to complain that FC Liverpool haven’t made an offer for a new contract yet,” Falk said BILD’s Englische Woche as translated by Sport Witness.
“His contract expires in the summer and Liverpool are actually already looking for a follow-up.”
“Omar Marmoush has already been a hot topic at Liverpool as an Egyptian for an Egyptian as a follow-up, but now it’s clear that Leroy Sané is a serious issue at Liverpool.”
Falk suggests that the Reds are looking for a ready-made solution in the event that the Egyptian leaves, and want someone that can fill his shoes immediately:
“I’ve heard that Liverpool is looking for a player with experience, so a talent who could immediately follow in the footsteps of Salah, and Leroy Sané has already been introduced.”
“You think he could do it, but nothing has happened at Bayern at the moment. No deal, no offer from Bayern.”
“Leroy Sané would expect a €3-5m discount on money in Bavaria, but first they want to wait until the new year. They’re waiting, nothing will happen before Christmas, that’s why Liverpool are in a tight spot.”
It has not been the best start to the season for the German international, who has three goals and one assist in 17 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich.
Talks between Mohamed Salah and the club have been going on since the November international break.
