Real Madrid interested in 22-year-old winger amid concerns about star forward’s attitude

Earlier this week, former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho remarked that he wishes to see Athletic Club winger Nico Williams play for the Merengues in the future.

Nico, 22, has largely been linked with Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona but Mourinho suggested that he hopes that Los Blancos are the ones who secure his signing.

Real Madrid interested in Nico Williams

Building on that, Cadena SER now reports that Real Madrid do have an interest in Nico Williams and are watching the Athletic Club winger.

As per the report, the reigning European champions are eager to add more Spanish players to their roster – with only Dani Carvajal, currently injured, being the established starter from the country in the team.

Nico, to that end, is seen as a possible option to reinforce the attacking unit and add more Spanish stars to the squad, with Real Madrid also looking at re-signing Miguel Gutierrez from Girona while Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is also on the agenda.

The report further states that another reason behind Real Madrid’s alleged interest in Nico Williams is the growing concern surrounding the attitude of Rodrygo.

The Brazilian forward has been well below his best this season while he is also dealing with recurring fitness problems.

Rodrygo has scored just three times this term, with his last goal coming all the way back in September.

According to the report, there is concern at Real Madrid that the Brazilian international is not the same player he was a year ago, while his attitude and social media activity complaining against some issues has also sparked some worry.

Real Madrid have previously never thought of selling Rodrygo even though there were speculations about his exit once Kylian Mbappe arrived. The 23-year-old has always had the support of club president Florentino Perez as well.

But if his form fails to improve in the rest of the season and the interest in Nico continues to grow, there may be a case for the Brazilian’s exit to accommodate the Athletic Club star.
