James Tarkowski has lauded his Everton teammate Ashley Young as “incredible” and labelled the 39-year-old as a “true professional”.

Even at 39 years old, Young is receiving praise for his performances at Everton and the general impact he is having around the club.

Quite remarkably, his age was highlighted when Everton drew Peterborough in FA Cup action where he could face off against his own son, Tyler.

His day-to-day impact has earned him plaudits for several years with Tarkowski the latest to praise him when speaking on talkSPORT (12 December, 9:50 am).

“Ash is incredible, you wouldn’t think he’s the age he is,” explained Tarkowski.

“You (Gabby Agbonlahor) played with him yourself years ago. The level he’s at still physically, even just to stick at it day in and day out in training because it’s not easy at times, I’ve been through it myself a little bit at times. He’s a true professional, at it all the time and he’s incredible around the place as well so we love him here.

“He’s not fussed he’ll play anywhere he’s told to play and just get on with it and play unbelievable. I mean he’s been one of our best players this season for me from right-back.”

Tarkowski comments prove Ashley Young importance at Everton

With what has been an underwhemling season for the Toffees, the positives get massively overshadowed by the negatives ongoing at the club whether that be on the pitch or away from it.

However, Young has certainly been one of those positives that seems to get massively underappreciated by many at Goodison Park.

His experience in the game and attitude towards the club is nothing short of exemplary and the work behind the scenes will undoubtedly have a massive influence on everyone around it.

Although it’s likely they will sign a defender in January, his role in the side should stay untouched if Everton want to make anything of this campaign.

His influence and experience will prove far too valuable to be overlooked by Sean Dyche or in fact by any manager if the club opt to sack the ex-Burnley boss for what has been a massively underwhelming season to date.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may be in a race against the clock to tie one player down to a contract after recent developments.
