Ange Postecoglou reveals Cristian Romero apology over Tottenham criticism

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed Cristian Romero has apologised for hispublic outburst against the club's hierarchy.

After falling 4-3 to Chelsea, Romero did not hold back with his assessment of the club's struggles, blasting those in charge for failing to invest in the squad and match the support offered to the rest of the Premier League's top sides.

"You have to realise that something is going wrong," he said. "Hopefully, they realise it."

Quizzed about Romero's comments before Thursday's Europa League meeting with Rangers, Postecoglou admitted the centre-back should not have made his frustrations public.

"I've already spoken to Cristian about it," the Spurs boss said. "He's apologised for the way he said it, particularly in the public sense, wasn't the right way to go about things.

"He is a human being, he got emotional and I think he just expressed what he wanted to express publicly in the wrong way. He does care. I think it would have been easier for him not to say anything. He does care, but like I said, there's a way to do these things."

Perhaps contributing to Romero's frustrations was the fact he left the game injured early on, having only just returned from close to a month on the sidelines.

There were doubts over whether either Romero or centre-back partner Micky van de Ven were fit enough to start, and those concerns were amplified when both players limped off before the final whistle. Neither player is fit enough to face Rangers.
