Michigan’s Star CB Enters 2025 NFL Draft

Michigan star cornerback Will Johnson has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, setting his sights on becoming a first-round pick. Johnson, ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's latest Big Board and considered a top-10 prospect by Field Level Media's draft rankings, joins fellow Wolverine defender Mason Graham in declaring this week. Graham, also projected as a high first-round talent, announced his departure on Tuesday.

At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Johnson brings rare size to the cornerback position and could be selected as high as fifth overall. His collegiate career has been marked by playmaking ability, with nine interceptions including a program-record three pick-sixes.

Johnson took to social media Wednesday to announce his decision, expressing gratitude to his faith and coaches: "I want to start by thanking God for guiding me every step of the way. I would be nothing without Him and his hand on my life. To my coaches - Thank you to Coach Harbaugh for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play at Michigan, it was a true honor."

The 2024 season was challenging for Johnson, who appeared in just six games due to a foot injury and will sit out the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. Despite the limited action, he made his presence felt with two pick-sixes in victories over Fresno State and USC. He also missed the Ohio State victory with a toe issue and another game with a shoulder problem. The toe injury, which he sustained against Illinois on October 19, has limited him since, though he's expected to be ready for the NFL Combine in February.

Despite the shortened season, Johnson's impact remained significant. He earned defensive MVP honors in last January's national championship game. His 2023 campaign was equally impressive, featuring four interceptions, including a memorable pick against Ohio State's Kyle McCord while matching up with eventual first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr.
