Report: Former Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth considered by another Premier League club as well…

Former Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth is not short of options following his departure from Manchester United.

The 53-year-old is suddenly out of work, after it was announced that he would be leaving Old Trafford. Alan Shearer described the Ashworth situation as ’embarrassing’ for Manchester United, after the Red Devils committed so much time to taking him from Newcastle United.

Newcastle fans have been amused by the Ashworth situation, while the former Toon sporting director is now plotting his next move.

It has been reported that Arsenal are interested in Ashworth, with the Gunners aiming to secure Edu’s replacement. Ashworth has previously worked with Arsenal managing director Richard Garlick, which could help him land a job at the Emirates.

However, there is now another Premier League club taking a look at the man who Man United binned off after less than six months.

Everton interested in Dan Ashworth

According to TalkSPORT, Dan Ashworth is in the mix to be the next Everton sporting director.

They report that he could replace Kevin Thelwell at Goodison Park, with incoming Everton owner Dan Friedkin a keen admirer of Ashworth.

TalkSPORT state that the takeover could be completed this month, and that Friedkin will look to bring his own people in.

That could hand Ashworth an immediate route back into the Premier League, after a rather shambolic 2024.

Ashworth dealt with Everton when he was at Newcastle

One of Ashworth’s biggest signings as Newcastle sporting director involved Everton, as Anthony Gordon swapped Goodison Park for St James’ Park in January 2023.

The Magpies paid an initial £40million for Gordon, making him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

It has proven to be money well spent, as Ashworth brought one of Eddie Howe’s key targets to the club. However, Amanda Staveley was heavily involved in the Gordon deal, so maybe Ashworth does not deserve too much of the credit.

Ashworth also dealt with Everton over the summer, as Manchester United failed to agree a deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from them. Instead, they bought Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
