Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of Southampton's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur at the St.Mary's Stadium on Sunday, Russell Martin has confirmed that Paul Onuachu has recovered from injury.
The 30-year-old picked up an injury in the 3-2 loss to Liverpool last month and has missed the last three games as a result of the injury.
Southampton have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season and that informed Martin's decision to hand him a rare start against Liverpool.
Onuachu played well until he was substituted against the league leaders and that could have influenced his playing status in the subsequent games.
He has started just one Premier League this term and has been involved in seven games across all competitions.
The lanky forward lack of adequate game time comes as no surprise.
He was heavily linked with a permanent move to Trabzonspor in the summer but the Turkish club could not meet his valuation, pulling the plug on the deal.
Delivering an injury update on his squad ahead of the clash with Tottenham, Martin has confirmed the return of Onuachu to team training.
"Jan Bednarek's back, Paul Onuachu's back, which is really good, and apart from that we're all good" the Saints boss shared in his frank update," he told [Southampton's official website](https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/news/article/saints-boosted-by-bednarek-and-onuachu-return?).
Martin added: "Paul gives us a real alternative option that's different to anyone in the squad and most people in the league actually.
"He was really unfortunate at the timing of his injury as he was in such a good place and was going to really help us I think, and now he's going to help us moving forwards."
Onuachu's stay with the Saints has not been fruitful and that led to his loan move to Trabzonspor last season.
He has made 19 appearances for the club and he is yet to find the back for the net.
