'If you don't do the right stuff': Sancho shares how Maresca reacts when a Chelsea player does something wrong

Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho has given some insight into what it is like working under Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager in the summer and has made a real impact at his new club.

Under the 44-year-old, Chelsea currently sit second in the Premier League, just four points behind Liverpool.

Maresca is getting the best out of Sancho presently, and the 24-year-old has been speaking about his manager. Sancho has also discussed the title race, with Chelsea looking like firm contenders at this moment in time.

Enzo Maresca tough on Chelsea players

Sancho has revealed that when a Chelsea player does something wrong on the pitch, Maresca can be very hard on them.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Englishman said: “He’s a very good coach. You know, he understands the players, but he’s very hard on you if you don’t do the right stuff. And I feel like every player is buying into how he works and just eager to learn, especially when I first came here.

“My first talk with him was… I got a good feeling, good impression, so I want him to be able to play under him.”

Last time out, it is unlikely that Sancho was the subject of Maresca’s wrath after he put in an excellent performance.

The England international scored a fantastic goal against Tottenham Hotspur to help his side win 4-3.

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy thinks Sancho will only get better in a blue shirt.

Chelsea’s victory over their London rivals was not an easy one. Less than 15 minutes into the game, the visitors found themselves 2-0 down.

Sancho’s goal in the 17th minute got Chelsea back into the match, though, before Maresca gave the team some specific instructions that helped them to turn things around.

Sancho revealed Maresca’s half-time words after the full-time whistle. “The gaffer told us to stay wide and create the one-on-ones,” the former Borussia Dortmund star said.

He has another London derby to look forward to, this time against Brentford. Chelsea lost the same fixture last season, while Brentford have one of the best attacks in the Premier League right now.

Chelsea are actually the only side who have scored more goals than the Bees this term, so this could be a real test for Maresca’s team and show how far they have come along since the last campaign.
