Journalist Claims Liverpool Are“Most Plausible PL Destination”For Bundesliga Flyer As Reds Move Ahead Of 3 Clubs

Liverpool are the “most plausible Premier League destination” if Alphonso Davies leaves Bayern Munich on a free transfer, according to The Athletic‘s Mario Cortegana.

The journalist has played down reports that Manchester United have a genuine chance of securing the Canadian international’s services, citing the finances involved and the club’s lack of Champions League football.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also said to be monitoring Davies’ situation but it appears Anfield would be the player’s preferred club if he decides to make the move to England.

However, Cortegana did emphasise that the likelihood of the 24-year-old playing for the Reds is still rather low.

Davies could well stay in Germany

Despite constant speculation about his future, with his current deal set to expire, the most likely outcome at the moment is that the pacey fullback remains at Bayern.

The Bundesliga side are reportedly more optimistic than ever that an agreement is within reach, especially after interest from Real Madrid cooled.

Liverpool will be in the market for a left-back

Davies would have been a perfect addition to the squad, considering both his age and the absence of a transfer fee but, if he does stay at the Allianz Arena, it won’t stop the Merseyside club from strengthening the left-hand side of defence.

Andy Robertson will be 31 in March, and Kostas Tsimikas has been linked with moves away from the club in recent transfer windows, so it is an area of the pitch that could soon be reinforced.

In addition to Davies, Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Ajax’s Jorrel Hato have been mentioned as potential targets, although both would cost considerably more to sign due to their contract situations.

If talks between Bayern and Davies do collapse for any reason, though, it appears that Liverpool could be prepared to step in with an offer of their own.
