Huddersfield Town captain Jonathan Hogg is set to miss around “four to six weeks” with a calf injury. The 36-year-old sustained the setback in the warm-up prior to Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy.
The skipper had been selected to make his first start since October, but is now set to spend at least a month on the sidelines.
“Hoggy’s going to miss a period of time. He’s got a grade two calf, so they’re normally four to six weeks, depending on tendon involvement and things like that,” head coach Michael Duff said at a press conference this afternoon.
“It’s unfortunate, he’d got his opportunity to get his first start for a bit. I think he knew deep down straight away, we got him off as a precaution hoping we’d saved it, but it obviously didn’t.”
However, Callum Marshall is back available for Saturday's clash against Lincoln City after sustaining a chest injury in the 2-1 victory at Mansfield Town last weekend.
“Callum has got a bit of bruised bone in his sternum, which is a thick piece of bone, but it’s obviously uncomfortable,” Duff said. “He trained today, so he should be available for the game. We’re just trying to protect him from any more contact than it needs to be, but he should be fine.”
Duff confirmed that there were no other fresh injury concerns from Tuesday’s game, while Joe Hodge and Lee Nicholls could also be closing in on making their return from groin and elbow setbacks respectively.
Providing an update on the pair, the Terriers’ boss said: “Hodgey’s back at Wolves today, so almost like a final sign off. He’s their player, so just before he goes back into full training, they just want to check certain scores, just to make sure that they think he’s ready. Hopefully that all goes well today, he’ll be back in with us tomorrow, and back into full training.
“Obviously you’ve got to get him up to speed, so that’s all dependent on them now. As far as our physios are concerned, we think he’s ready to return, but he’s their player, their asset, they want to just keep tabs on where he’s at.
“Lee is back in training. He had another appointment with the surgeon last week I think it was, he just felt a little bit of an irritation in it, so I think he’s had a PRP in his elbow, so he’s just got to be off feet for three or four days, just to let that kick in and settle, and reduce the inflammation.
“He’s still not quite ready. He’s getting closer and closer, but he won’t be available for the weekend.”
