Weston McKennie has put himself further into the bad books with Leeds United fans after his latest comments on living in the city.

The American – who played 20 times for the club on loan during the 2022-23 season – has never hidden the fact he was uncomfortable in West Yorkshire and found it difficult to settle.

After helping Juventus to a 2-0 win over Manchester City with a goal in the Champions League on Wednesday night [11 December], he made some further remarks about the weather and the surroundings while talking to the CBS Sports team.

As quoted by LeedsAllOver [12 December], McKennie said: “Okay I will say this, Leeds as a club, the people within the club I liked. The city itself and the surroundings was a little bit hard. It was always grey, I had a sunlight window in my house and there was never any sun coming through.

“No Sunday roast, no nothing. I was alone. My area was like no area, nothing around. I went up to see Harry Potter world which was like an hour away. That’s it, that’s all I did, and golf.”

Fair do’s to McKennie in a sense. He is working his way in at Juventus and has scored three times in his 14 appearances this season.

But it just becomes arduous and unnecessary when the negativities of Leeds are still rambled after he has achieved such a feat as scoring and winning against Man City.

McKennie was far from the first or the last player not to work out at Elland Road, but he has never been shy in voicing his thoughts. The brutal honesty can be commended on one hand, but many Whites fans will not take too kindly to their hometown being bad-mouthed. Not so much the weather stuff, but beyond that.

The midfielder ought to credit Leeds to an extent – his loan stint in the Premier League, in which he was part of a relegated side and failed to score, set him up for a solid year with Juve in which he was a Serie A regular, and featured 38 times in all competitions.

Luckily for Daniel Farke and the club, they seem to have a settled side which can be added to in January to look to ensure promotion this time around. One would be wise to rule out a loan for McKennie this time around, though.

In other Leeds news, David Norris fears Dan James could be the next to leave for the Premier League.
