Tottenham eyeing defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult start to the season continued on Sunday when they squandered a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Chelsea in the Premier League.

The weekend’s defeat at home to Chelsea left the Lilywhites in the bottom half of the Premier League table, now seven points off fourth place. They have won just once in their last seven games across all competitions, while losing four to Bournemouth, Ipswich Town, Chelsea and Galatasaray.

Ange Postecoglou was backed well in the past summer transfer window with the club breaking their transfer record to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, as well as welcoming promising youngsters in Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. They also re-signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has been subject to links with a move away from White Hart Lane, as he is linked with Real Madrid.

And now with Ange Postecoglou struggling to get results, thanks majorly to the squad being decimated by injuries, the chiefs at the Hotspur Way are planning to invest again in the upcoming winter transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are planning to reinforce their backline owing to Cristian Romero’s recent injury. His injury has left a gaping hole and the club wants to fill it by signing a centre-back next month.

Centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both limped off in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea, exposing Spurs defensively in the process. Big Ange is also without goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and veteran defender Ben Davies. The defence needs surgery but is not expected to be a quick fix. The aforementioned report adds Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura is one of the centre-back options on the shortlist.
