Newcastle United may need to undergo a period of change in the January transfer window.
Indeed, as has seemingly been the case for what feels like an age at Newcastle, Profit and Sustainability (PSR) limitations are likely to remain in play.
The mood music heading into January isn’t exactly positive. Craig Hope of The Daily Mail recently suggested money was likely to be tight, while Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph hinted there was no guarantee any signing would be made at all.
Still, it has also been claimed that player sales could potentially change that.
Plenty of names have been tipped to leave St James’ Park, after all. Miguel Almiron is thought to be attracting interest, while Kieran Trippier’s future has been uncertain for a reasonably long time.
It will be fascinating to see who – if anyone – leaves the club halfway through the season. Losing players at that stage of the campaign is hardly ideal but, at some point, the squad does need to be refreshed and sales could provide extra funds, at least in theory.
One of the players more recently tipped to leave has been hailed as “magnificent” by pundit Stuart Pearce.
Homegrown Newcastle player now sees his future elsewhere
According to The Daily Mail, Sean Longstaff could be sold in January.

Longstaff has recently had his contract extended by an extra year but that is understood to have been a measure taken solely to protect his value.
Several clubs are said to have been told about his availability and Longstaff himself reportedly feels as if his future may lie elsewhere.
Sean Longstaff would leave Newcastle with his head held high
Sometimes a reasonably divisive figure amongst the fanbase, Longstaff would leave Newcastle with his head held high.
He’s been part of the journey over recent years after initially stalling on the potential that saw him compared to a young Michael Carrick.
Longstaff’s goals against Southampton and Paris Saint-Germain in the Carabao Cup and the Champions League respectively have given Newcastle some of their best nights in modern history.
Even now, amid a turbulent period which has seen Eddie Howe question the attitude of some of his players, Longstaff was the only one pressing Brentford at times on Saturday during the 4-2 defeat.
If he is to go, he will be missed…
