Liverpool have been named as the 'most plausible' Premier League side to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich upon the expiry of his contract. This comes after months of speculation linking the Canadian with a switch to rivals Manchester United.

As the Reds currently work to retain three of their most important players before the expiry of their contracts, whispers are gradually getting louder to suggest that they would seek to benefit with one signing under these circumstances. The first sign was a claim club scouts have been tracking the performances of Davies in Germany this season.

The Canadian international has been highly-valued ever since he broke into the Bayern first-team as an 18-year-old. As a full-back he possesses the ability to get forward and join attacks, and now has the experience of winning five Bundesliga titles and one Champions League.

But Bayern now find themselves in the same scenario Liverpool do with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

With his current deal due to expire this coming summer, Davies has been hotly linked with interest for a free transfer to Real Madrid. The Reds know all about that.

The Athletic's latest report explains the La Liga giants have held discussions over terms, though no confirmation of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu has arrived yet. This has opened the door to rival interest, with Man United the other most anticipated suitor in the race.

Ruben Amorim has inherited injury-prone Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as part of his squad, so Davies seems like a natural option to fit the left-wing back role in his formation.

However, numerous factors impacting the Old Trafford club - a current lack of involvement in the Champions League, tight budgets plus Davies' demands to be a high-earner - have seen their bitter rivals Liverpool installed as the 'most plausible' team from the Premier League to land a deal, with their interest 'expressed'.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with monitoring the full-back, though they do not extend beyond that.

For the Reds, the catch is that The Athletic's 'senior Liverpool sources' have strongly denied ties to the Bayern star over a future transfer.

Foreign clubs such as Liverpool will be officially allowed to present pre-contract offers to begin from July 1, 2025, upon the turn of the year.
