When will postponed match between Everton and Liverpool take place? Report provides update

close

The postponed Premier League clash between Everton and Liverpool has reportedly been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The Merseyside derby was initially set to take place on December 7 at Goodison Park.

Liverpool's derby against Everton last weekend had to be called off on safety grounds due to severe weather caused by Storm Darragh. The Reds released a statement announcing the postponement, which read:

"Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting this morning at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that due to the risk to safety in the local area, and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6am on Sunday, today’s match is postponed on safety grounds."

"We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance. Information relating to a rearranged date for the fixture, including ticketing, will be announced in due course."

According to Premier League rules, postponed fixtures should be rescheduled for the next available midweek slot. But Arne Slot's men have limited options with their upcoming matches in the cup competitions. The Reds play against Southampton in the Carabao Cup's quarter-finals on Wednesday, December 18, and if they qualify further, Arne Slot's squad will not have an unoccupied midweek until February.

Liverpool are currently on top of the UEFA Champions League table with 18 points, having won all six of their matches this season. The Reds are likely to finish in the top eight of the UCL's league phase table and secure automatic qualification for the last 16. This would lead to an open slot in the fixture list for a Premier League game when the competition's play-offs take place in the beginning of February.

According to the Mirror, the Reds' away match against Everton in the Premier League has been rescheduled to February 11, pending approval from UEFA.

The historical rivalry between Liverpool and Everton makes the Merseyside derby one of the most anticipated and popular fixtures in the Premier League. The Reds have a good record against the Toffees, having won 99 out of the 244 matches played between them, while the latter have managed 68 victories.

Liverpool reportedly interested in signing Brighton's Joao Pedro

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro in the January transfer window. The Reds' reported interest in the 23-year-old comes in the wake of his impressive performances this season, as per Brazilian publication UOL.

Joao Pedro has registered four goals and three assists in the Premier League for Brighton so far this season.

While the Reds are not lacking players to fill this role, it seems that head coach Arne Slot is reportedly keen on acquiring Joao Pedro's signature to further strengthen their squad. The Brazilian star's current market value is estimated at €50 million, as per Transfermarkt.

Since he joined Brighton from Watford in 2023, Joao Pedro has netted 24 goals and provided six assists in 49 appearances for the Seagulls.
