'Brilliant': Jason Cundy super impressed by what Chelsea player did during 3-1 win over Astana

Chelsea impressively navigated their long trip to Kazakhstan to beat Astana away from home earlier today.

Chelsea are making light work of the Conference League this season, winning five out of five in the group stage phase.

The Blues recorded a 3-1 away victory over Astana on Thursday afternoon, where a much-changed side kept up the club’s recent momentum. As it stands, Enzo Maresca’s side have won their last six consecutive games across all competitions.

Jason Cundy praises Chelsea forward Marc Guiu

Jason Cundy singled out Chesea’s Marc Guiu for big praise after his contribution in the Conference League.

The 18-year-old striker started the contest and scored his side’s opening two goals, including a brilliant solo effort for his first.

During half time of Astana versus Chelsea, Cundy said via Chelsea’s official app (4:20pm, 12 December): “Looking at Guiu up top, he’ll be hungry for his hat-trick. He knows that he’s down the pecking order.

“The goal that he scores out on the right-hand side, there’s only one thing on his mind. It’s a brilliant finish. There’s so much for him to do on that right. Defensively they looked alright in the shape, but Guiu drives in and cuts inside.”

Similarly, Joe Cole loved Guiu’s first Chelsea goal at Astana, where the young forward dribbled from deep before netting with a smart finish inside the penalty box.

Guiu thinks he’s ready for Premier League action, but his only top-flight appearance was the opening day defeat to Manchester City. He’s had to make do with minutes in various cup competitions ever since.

Marc Guiu was a Chelsea bargain

Even though Guiu is still on the fringes of Chelsea’s squad this season, it’s pretty evident that the club have landed him on a major bargain.

The Blues paid £5m (BBC) in the summer to sign the centre-forward from Barcelona.

At the age of 18, he’s already proving to be a major handful for defenders when he plays senior football. It’s scary to think how good he could be in a few years time with more experience and development.

Chelsea strikers Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku mean that Guiu’s path into the side this season is extremely difficult, but he took his chance to impress on Thursday.
