Ruud van Nistelrooy issues honest response when asked about Leicester's transfer plans this…

Leicester City are preparing to face Newcastle United this weekend.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side have taken four points from a possible six and could move eight clear of the relegation zone with a win on Tyneside.

Leicester head into the game off the back of a sensational late comeback against Brighton, so they will be full of confidence.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United were handed a thumping 4-2 defeat by Brentford on the weekend, so there’s every chance of another positive result.

Van Nistelrooy sat down in front of the media on Thursday afternoon and provided a worrying injury update on his squad, though.

Wilfried Ndidi is out for a couple of weeks due to injury whilst Harry Winks also remains unavailable with a groin issue.

That leaves Leicester short in midfield and it’s become apparent that January reinforcements are needed across the squad.

Van Nistelrooy says Leicester are looking at transfer targets

In Thursday’s press conference, van Nistelrooy admitted that Leicester are surveying the transfer market ahead of January.

“It’s a continuous process,” the Dutchman explained, via Leicestershire Live.

“The way it’s organised in the club, I like it, the way everybody is preparing different possibilities. It’s whether we want to go for these options.

“We’re looking at different positions to prepare ourselves, but I’m also looking at the current players and the Under-21s.

“There’s young JJ (Jayden Joseph), there’s Henry (Cartwright). I have a good picture of what is needed in the window.”

Van Nistelrooy hinted that Henry Cartwright could be involved against Newcastle at the weekend.

The three positions Leicester need to sign

Over the course of the season, it’s become obvious that Leicester need to invest in a new centre-back this winter.

Wout Faes has been error-ridden whilst Jannik Vestergaard and Conor Coady aren’t long-term options due to their age.

Caleb Okoli is also still finding his feet following his switch from Atalanta in the summer.

Leicester also need a right-winger, following Abdul Fatawu’s injury, and a striker to help share the load with Jamie Vardy.
