Chelsea make new hire behind the scenes as Todd Boehly plan continues to take shape

Chelsea have continued their reshuffle behind the scenes with the hiring of the former director of communications for 10 Downing Street.

Having seen CEO Chris Jurasek depart this year, with Jason Gannon now in the role, other arrivals in the executive team have included Todd Kline from Tottenham Hotspur as president of business, replacing Tom Glick, while Casper Stylsvig arrived as chief revenue officer at the end of 2023 from AC Milan.

[Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital,](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/) while overseeing a radical overhaul of the playing squad through heavy investment and accelerated levels of player trading, have also been making moves to change the personnel and culture of key personnel behind the scenes, with the latest move another sign of that.

The club have hired Nerissa Chesterfield, who was director of communications under former Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak until earlier this year when the Tories were defeated at the General Election, as director of corporate communications and affairs at Stamford Bridge.

Chesterfield, who also served as a special advisor to Sunak at the Treasury when he served as Chancellor of the Exchequer under the leadership of Boris Johnson, had obtained approval from the non-departmental government body, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACBA), which gets involved which advises on applications of former Crown staff when they wish to take up employment away from the Crown.

Approval was granted for Chesterfield, albeit with the caveat that she would not be able to lobby the government or any of its ‘arms length’ bodies for the next two years. The ACBA produced a seven-page document detailing the findings and highlighted that there are 'limited risks' associated with the appointment at Chelsea due to the role she previously held within government.

According to the document, her responsibilities at Chelsea will be focused on leading on the football club's strategic communications, day to day reactive communications, crisis management and media relations and shaping and delivering the club’s strategic messaging in close collaboration with the board and the club’s owners.
