Bukayo Saka has been named in UEFA’s official Champions League Team of the Week for his performance in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over AS Monaco on Wednesday.
Arsenal played host to the Ligue 1 outfit in an important tie which could have gone a long way in determining the top eight of the new league phase of the competition – given that Arsenal and Monaco had identical records before the game.
A valiant display, despite not always being the most eye-catching, saw Arsenal emerge as 3-0 victors and one player who did catch the eye was who else but Saka – who turned in yet another performance of the highest level.

The England international scored twice and was instrumental in his side’s third, providing an excellent assist for Kai Havertz despite fierce debate as to whether or not the German actually got a touch on the ball – but he certainly seemed to think he did.
Saka performing when it matters most is nothing new to Arsenal fans, and his display on Wednesday was just the latest instalment of the 23-year-old’s North London legacy – which he appears to be improving with every passing game.

There will likely be a small degree of disappointment from Saka, however, who would likely have scored his first senior hat-trick for Arsenal had it not been for Havertz’s involvement in the Gunners’ final goal – although the character of Saka suggests that, in reality, he will not mind at all to see his teammates on the scoresheet.
Saka was one of just three Premier League stars, and the only English player, selected in UEFA’s Champions League Team of the Week this week, alongside Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and Aston Villa midfielder, and former Arsenal transfer target, Youri Tielemans.
Liverpool won 1-0 away against Girona, while Aston Villa took the lead on three separate occasions before beating Bundesliga side RB Leipzig 3-2 in Germany.
