Manchester City’s dismal run of form continued on Wednesday as they were beaten 2-0 by Juventus in the Champions League.
The Citizens are now in real danger of being knocked out of the competition at the group phase, as they sit 22nd in the table at present.
Only the top eight sides qualify automatically, with the next 16 teams entering a play-off to reach the last 16 of the competition.
If they finish below 24th spot, City will be knocked out of the competition that they won just tow years ago.
Pep Guardiola’s side have also been in dismal form domestically, winning just one of their last six Premier League matches.
City have now fallen eight points behind leaders Liverpool, who also boast a game-in-hand over their rivals.
Off the pitch, City are reportedly preparing to offer one of their senior players a new contract.
As per GiveMeSport, City intend to offer defender John Stones a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2026.
Stones has suffered with injuries this season
The England international has been with City for eight years, having joined from Premier League rivals Everton in 2016.
He has played more than 260 times for the Manchester club across all competitions, and has lifted 17 trophies including the Champions League and six Premier League titles.
Stones, who will soon enter the final 18 months of his current £250,000-per-week deal, has recently suffered the latest in a string of injuries that have hampered him over recent years.
Despite this, it is claimed that City are keen to ensure Stones stays put beyond the end of his current deal.
City are also considering an overhaul of their current squad in an effort to ensure they remain competitive in the wake of their recent poor form, but the report suggests that Stones is not one of those that will be sold and the club will instead endeavour to make sure he stays put at The Etihad.
