Sean Dyche’s latest update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton tells you all you need to know about how he is viewed at Goodison Park.

The striker’s deal with Everton expires in the summer, meaning there have been plenty of questions regarding his future.

The 27-year-old has been at Goodison for years and has always been relatively solid for his side, meaning his various managers have stood by him.

However, with only two goals so far this season, it’s fair to say he isn’t quite delivering for the Toffees, only creating more uncertainty around his future.

Dyche’s recent update does suggest there is a level of apathy over the striker’s future, though, as he said in his pre-match press conference [12 December]: “The situation is an ongoing one. It could depend on the takeover, which is not completed yet.”

Parting ways best for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton

It has been a poor season for the Toffees so far this season as they find themselves sitting just five points ahead of the relegation zone, having won just three games.

However, Calvert-Lewin has failed to show any positive signs this season with a poor goal return given he has started all but one game during the Premier League campaign.

We know the 27-year-old is capable of scoring goals and therefore, it is no surprise that as the expiry of his contract edges closer, there are decisions to be made.

However, his manager’s comments make it seem as though a decision has already been made. Although any future deals will be affected by the takeover, which is waiting to be completed, Dyche doesn’t know if he will be here to make the decisions. His lack of enthusiasm over future conversations certainly suggests that the club knows this relationship is over.

The Toffees can be thankful for what the striker has been able to give them in the past but being able to let him go for free this summer will surely be a relief for the club who will be looking to sign some more exciting prospects going forward.
