Man Utd fire subtle Arsenal dig with statement ahead of FA Cup clash

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Manchester United have explainied why tickets for their trip to Arsenal have not gone on sale

Manchester United have claimed they are unable to put tickets on sale for their third round clash against Arsenal because the Gunners have not released enough information.

United will travel to the Emirates for the huge cup clash on January 12 and had planned to put tickets up for sale on December 13 - a month before the game takes place.

However, it appears the Red Devils will have to release tickets at a later date after failing to be given arrangements for the game by their London counterparts.

The club put out a statement pointing the finger at Arsenal as they attempted to explain why fans were unable to get their hands on tickets yet.

It said: "Arsenal have not provided us with the relevant information required to open applications as planned at 8am tomorrow for our away game in the FA Cup.

"We’ll update here as and when this is received and will also add updates to our game information on the ticketing website."

United vs Arsenal is by far the biggest tie of the round as the two Premier League giants were pitted against each other at the earliest opportunity.

United blamed Arsenal - managed by Mikel Arteta - for failing to release more information

Issues around United's ticketing come after Sir Jim Ratcliffe was forced to defend the decision to raise matchday tickets to a flat rate of £66 for all ages - with concessions scrapped until next season.

"I don't want to end up in a position where the genuine local fans can't afford to come, but I do want to optimise the ticketing. We need to find a balance. And you can't be popular all the time either.

"Here, we're talking about three per cent of the tickets. That's not the issue. The issue, as you say, is whether this is the thin edge of the wedge.

"I don't think it makes sense for a Manchester United ticket to cost less than a ticket to see Fulham."
