“He would be a disruption to the squad” - Ex-Chelsea star explains why Blues should skip chance to sign Mohamed Salah as free agent

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has advised the club against considering making a move to sign Mohamed Salah as a free agent in the summer. The Egyptian remains contracted to the Reds but appears set to become a free agent once his contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Chelsea have had an excellent start to life under former Leicester City coach Enzo Maresca, sitting four points off Liverpool atop the Premier League table. The Blues have fielded the youngest team in the Premier League this season, but several people hold the opinion that they need to sign one or two quality, experienced players

William Gallas spoke to Prime Casino about the possibility of his former side signing the 32-year-old as a free agent. While he acknowledged that Salah would bring great quality, he remains wary of the fact that the Egyptian may cause a disruption to the balance of the squad.

"I think Chelsea should reject the chance to sign Mohamed Salah as a free agent this summer, I think he would be a disruption to the squad," Gallas said. "The current Chelsea team are all learning and growing together and it’s working for Enzo Maresca. They are all part of a generation with no big egos, despite Cole Palmer being the focal point."

I think bringing in a player like Salah wouldn’t be good for the balance of the squad, despite his form in the Premier League and how it would weaken Liverpool," he added.

Chelsea signed the Egyptian from FC Basel, and he scored two goals in 19 appearances for the club before leaving for Roma in 2016. He joined Liverpool in 2017, with the Reds having been beaten to his signature by the Blues in 2014. He has been sensational for the Reds, scoring 227 goals in 371 appearances, and winning the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles, among others.

Salah has begun negotiations with Liverpool over a new contract, but the outcome of those talks is being monitored closely by other sides. Chelsea may be tempted to try and bring him back, although the player may be unwilling to play for any other side in England.

Manchester United great names Chelsea star ahead of Mohamed Salah as the best player in the league

Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has revealed that he considers Chelsea ace Cole Palmer, and not Mohamed Salah, to be the best player in the Premier League at present. The pair of players have lit up the league this season in the colors of the Blues and Reds, respectively.

Brown spoke to 10Bet after seeing Palmer score a brace in the game against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend (December 8). He praised the 22-year-old England international as a special player, hailing his composure and demeanor on the pitch.

"Cole Palmer is by far the best player in the Premier League this season. He just plays with absolute chilliness. It's just like he's playing with his mates, but he's taking it seriously as well. He's definitely not nervous in any game, but he's actually has got the talent and everything else to go with his demeanor. He's a pretty special player."

Mohamed Salah has contributed 13 goals and eight assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, helping them reach the summit of the standings. Cole Palmer, on the other hand, has scored 11 goals and provided six assists for the Blues, putting them in second place in the league.
