What Amanda Staveley is now publicly saying about her plans after leaving Newcastle

It will be fascinating to see where Amanda Staveley lands next in football.

The former Newcastle director was a public-facing presence at St James’ Park following the PIF takeover in October 2021 and broadly seemingly enjoyed a good relationship with supporters, players and the manager alike.

Indeed, several first-team stars were understood to have been surprised at the manner of her exit back in July, while the shock news was said to have hit manager Eddie Howe reasonably hard.

While Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi were said to have been forced out of the club, it would perhaps be fair to say they remain popular figures amongst supporters on Tyneside.

The two were a big presence at games and on social media and any moves they make in the football world after leaving Newcastle are bound to be noteworthy.

Staveley has been linked with being part of a consortium who could look to buy a stake at Tottenham and has been speaking publicly about her plans.

Speaking at Bloomberg’s ‘Women, Money & Power’ event in central London (via BBC Sport), Staveley said: “First of all, I think all we can do is thank the amazing Newcastle community and the founders for all the support that we had and and continue to get.

“It’s so hard to move on from a club that’s amazing. We could never move on from Newcastle and we never will. But yes, we’re looking at a number of investment operations.

“We can’t say too much at the moment because of you know, rules around it. But we will be able to talk about it, hopefully in the not too distant future.”

Amanda Staveley has already given a prediction about Newcastle after exit

Fortunately, it seems Staveley holds no grudge towards decision-makers at Newcastle.

She, after all, told The Athletic that the club were in safe hands under the stewardship of PIF and the Rueben brothers.

“The Reuben family are like my family, and PIF are as well,” she said.

“Yasir [Al-Rumayyan] is one of my best friends. They will treasure it as much as I treasure Newcastle. The club has all the ingredients and the thing I love about the Geordies is that they know how to stand up for themselves.”

It’s a shame Staveley and Ghodoussi are no longer part of Newcastle during what looks the most testing part of PIF’s ownership yet but nothing lasts forever.

Wherever they land in the Premier League or beyond, it’ll be interesting to see if they can build the same kind of connection with their supporters.

They have certainly proven they can before.
