Newcastle United are once again facing the challenge of offloading some of their current players to free up funds to spend in the January transfer window.

These PSR rules severely hampered our progress over the summer, where talented youngsters like Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were forced out of the club before June’s deadline.

It looks this is going to be the case once again with some first-team players being made available, including one Eddie Howe favourite that often splits opinion amongst fans.

According to Craig Hope at the Daily Mail[Daily Mail](https://t.co/7eceYSkp0F), Newcastle are listening to offers for Sean Longstaff in January with sporting director Paul Mitchell tasked to improve the club’s PSR situation and make us better sellers.

As an Academy graduate who recently agreed an extension to keep him contracted to the club until 2026, Longstaff would provide ‘pure profit’ if he was moved on and it seems Toon chiefs have decided his time may be up.

We all know he is valued by Eddie Howe for being a hard worker, but the simple facts are that technically he is not as talented as other midfielders in the team. Thought it would be a shame to see another boyhood fan leave, it would not be a monumental loss if his exit allowed for much-needed incomings.

Teenage star set to take Longstaff’s role

Hope’s piece for The Mail also comments on Lewis Miley’s future and what could be next for the 18-year-old talent.

He reports that the England U21 international will NOT be loaned out in the New Year, as the club believe he’s ready to step into Longstaff’s first team role and would be very much needed should we find a buyer for the latter.

However, one youngster who could be available on loan is Alex Murphy, with the Irish  defender tipped to join a Championship or League One side next month.

Do you feel it’s the right time to sell Longstaff or would you like to see him remain on Tyneside?
