Real Betis do want to re-sign Guido Rodriguez but are looking at other alternatives as a transfer for the West Ham midfielder is a “difficult operation”, according to Eduardo Burgos.

The Spanish journalist reported to X (12 December) that the La Liga side are also exploring a loan move for Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei in a new twist but do want the Argentina international back.

The Green-and-Whites are relying on the 30-year-old wanting to leave the London Stadium due to a lack of consistent minutes in the Premier League, the post added.

Burgos said Betis understand that it could be a difficult task to bring Rodriguez back to the club just six months after he left, and are keeping tabs on alternative solutions.

The World Cup winner came in on a free transfer over the summer and appeared to represent a positive piece of business by the Irons.

The Argentine’s experience looked set to provide an excellent base to the midfield in East London and to provide competition for Edson Alvarez.

Things haven’t truly worked out for Rodriguez who has often found himself on the bench in recent weeks despite starting the opening Premier League games of the season.

Given his age and experience, it is unlikely that the ex-River Plate man is going to accept being a constant substitute under Julen Lopetegui.

This could suggest that a move away in January would suit all parties but leave the Hammers light in his position.

It is positive to know that there is interest in the defensive midfielder’s signature if the Irons decide to sell but after just four months in East London, it would be a strange move to let him go already.
