Premier League clubs will be able to dip into their pockets in less than three weeks when the January transfer window opens, and there's plenty of work for some of them to do.
United have a lot of work to do if they are to climb into Champions League contention under Ruben Amorim. They sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table, though a third straight Europa League win on Thursday night has boosted their continental hopes.
Amorim can be forgiven for wanting to strengthen his squad as he seeks players capable of operating in his 3-4-3 system, but FFP restrictions mean United may need to sell before they buy. Marcus Rashford is thought to be among the more saleable assets, with the club potentially prepared to cash in if a suitable offer arrives.
Further up the table, Liverpool's focus remains on their three stars whose contracts expire in June. Mohamed Salah appears close to an extension, while efforts have also been made to convince Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to stick around.
With Manchester City floundering, Arsenal are in a strong position to make their case as Liverpool's biggest title threat. Both teams could look for January reinforcements, with City aiming to cover for the loss of injured star Rodri.
Chelsea are unlikely title contenders after a strong start under Enzo Maresca, and they too could be busy in January. Tottenham are also expected to explore moves amid an injury crisis, while clubs down the bottom could be tempted into some business in an effort to stave off the drop.

Gordon's stance on Liverpool
Anthony Gordon has been linked with a Liverpool switch on more than one occasion, but ended up staying at Newcastle and has explained his celebration against the Reds in the recent 3-3 draw.
"The celebration was just that I'd heard so much talk this year about my future, where I'm going, where I want to go without anyone actually asking me," Gordon told Sky Sports. "Just leave me to play football, I just want to be happy, play football.
"I love it here, I've said it plenty of times, I think with the speculation, people assume it is all correct when you've never heard from me once that I am unhappy at this place. I love everyone here."

ICYMI: Rashford's January options
Manchester United might be ready to cash in on Marcus Rashford, but whether a team will meet their asking price is a different matter.
Rashford is thought to be valued at around £40m, considerably less than he might have fetched after a career-best season in 2022-23.
We've looked at some of the remaining options for the England international, including a couple in the Premier League and some others a little further afield.
