Report: Eddie Howe’s ‘priority’ January Newcastle target has just been made available for £23m

Newcastle United will be on the lookout for bargain transfer deals over the January window.

Unfortunately, the Profit and Sustainability Rules continue to dominate stories around Newcastle’s transfer plans.

Paul Mitchell’s January budget appears to be highly restricted by the regulations with Newcastle needing to sell to buy.

Miguel Almiron looks set to leave Newcastle, while Callum Wilson was another who seemed headed for the exit door before his two-month injury setback.

While Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s ‘dream’ signing, the tight budget means Mitchell and Co. may have to look for cheaper deals elsewhere.

Newcastle United interest in Antony

Newcastle’s interest in Antony dates back to 2022 when he was at Dutch side Ajax.

Manchester United splashed £85m signing Antony under Erik ten Hag, but the Brazilian has struggled to settle in at Old Trafford and the Red Devils could look to offload him in 2025.

Two years since monitoring him at Ajax, CaughtOffside reported in September of this year that Antony was a “priority” signing for Eddie Howe in this upcoming January window.

The report claimed that Man United were open to selling Antony for £40m, which still seemed a steep price for the 24-year-old.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now looking to cut costs at Old Trafford and Antony’s valuation has dropped even lower.

Antony now available for just £23m in January

According to the Daily Mail, Man United now value Antony at just £23m – less than a third of what they signed him for.

They would be open to a January deal as they look to offload him, meaning Howe could reignite his interest in the former Ajax star.

Former Newcastle target Marcus Rashford is also available with Man United willing to accept offers of £40m for the England international.

While Antony’s price tag has been slashed once again, he would still demand a fairly high wage to move to Tyneside – something that may not be possible under the current PSR restraints.
